On2 Flix Video for Flash 8

The Best Quality, Period.

Flix 8 Streaming Video Encoder - VideoStreamPLUS
On2 Flix is the premiere family of Macromedia Flash 8 video encoding products. On2 Flix 8 converts virtually any video to Flash 8 format and includes our revolutionary On2 TrueMotion VP6 , the video compression that Macromedia has licensed for its Flash family of products. On2 Flix delivers Flash video of unparalleled quality.

We at America Web Works and the PodCast Radio Show understand how to create great-looking Flash 8 video because we invented its underlying technology. On2 Flix 8 supports the ultra high-quality two-pass video encoding that On2 has spend years developing and refining. That's why we have teamed and aligned with On2 to bring you streaming video at its' best!

Using On2 Flix, you can create Flash 8 video for the web, video blogs (vlogs), CD-ROMs, presentations and other applications with video quality comparable or better than Windows Media, MPEG-4 and H.264.

Flash video works without a streaming server, plays on all platforms & browsers, and streams through firewalls. Since 98% of computers have the free Flash player installed, using On2 Flix means that your viewers won't have to download any players - the video simply plays in their web browsers, automatically .

Export Formats

Flix exports these types of Flash video:

  1. High-quality Flash 8 SWF video featuring On2 VP6 (both 1-pass and 2-pass VBR) that plays in the Flash 8 player. Flash 8 video also supports alpha transparency, which lets authors combine Flash video with text, vector graphics and other Flash elements.

  2. High-quality Flash 8 FLV video featuring On2 VP6 (both 1-pass and 2-pass VBR) that plays in the Flash 8 player when loaded into the player using the correct streaming syntax. This syntax is automatically added when using one of Flix's players (Players are not supported in Flix Standard). FLV video can also be used with the Macromedia Flashcom Server and it can be directly imported into the Macromedia Flash 8 authoring tool (Studio 8). When creating video for CD, it is strongly recommended that you use FLV video.

  3. Flash MX SWF Video: Flix's high quality Flash MX SWF video with both 1-pass and 2-pass VBR. Flix's Flash MX SWF video, which plays in the Flash 6 player (and higher), uses high quality video compression that is comparable to Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and Real. It can be brought into the Flash authoring tool with Load Movie. MX SWF video is recommended for smaller videos (25MB and less) and shorter videos (under 16,000 frames).

  4. Flash MX FLV Video: Flix's high quality Flash MX FLV video (both 1-pass and 2-pass VBR) that plays in the Flash 7 player (and higher) when loaded into the player using the correct streaming syntax. This syntax is automatically added when using one of Flix Pro's players. In addition, FLV video can be imported directly into the Macromedia Flash authoring tool (versions MX and higher) and it can be streamed using the Macromedia Flashcom Server. Flix outputs FLV files with either MP3 audio, which is better for use when deploying the FLV files, and uncompressed audio which is useful when creating files intended to be imported into the Macromedia Flash authoring tool.

Note: FLV files have no 16,000 frame limit and they handle RAM in a different way than SWF files, so if you are creating large video files, it is strongly recommended that use FLV output. Also, when creating video for CD, you should use FLV video because it performs better. FLV files also do not have a SWF framerate and play independently of the SWF framerate of any SWF file that you may load them into.

  5. Flash 3+ Video: Flash 3+ video plays in any Flash player versions 3 and higher (note: mp3 audio requires at least the Flash 4 player). It can be brought into Flash with Load Movie, or imported by selecting "Create importable SWF" in the SWF tab. (Over 98% of all Web users have Flash 3 or higher installed.) While the MX SWF and FLV video output is much better quality, you may want to use the Flash 3+ video for certain applications - such as advertising, homepages, etc. because you can be fairly certain that viewers will be able to view the video without having to download any player. Flash 3+ video is recommended for brief clips used in highly trafficked locations such as website homepages and advertisements.

  6. Vector Video: Flix's one-of-a-kind vector video. Flix is the only software available that turns standard video into a vector based animation. Flix can output four different types of vector video from the same source: color, gray scale, two color (any two colors) and outline (also with any two colors). Flix's vector video plays in any Flash player versions 3 and higher (note: mp3 audio will not play in the Flash 3 player). The vector video can be brought into Flash with Import and Load Movie.

Flix also exports two types of Flash audio files:

  1. SWF Audio: Flix's SWF audio plays in any Flash player versions 4 and higher. It can be brought into Flash with Load Movie, or imported by selecting "Create importable SWF" in the SWF tab. (Over 96% of all Web users have Flash 4 or higher installed.)

  2. FLV Audio: Flix's FLV audio plays in the Flash 7 player (and higher) when loaded into the player using the correct streaming syntax. This syntax is automatically added when using one of Flix Pro's players. In addition, FLV files can be imported directly into the Macromedia Flash authoring tool (versions MX and higher) and can be streamed using the Macromedia Flashcom Server. Flix outputs FLV files with either MP3 audio, which is better for use when deploying the FLV files on the Web or CD, and uncompressed audio which is useful when creating files intended to be imported into the Macromedia Flash authoring tool.

Note: FLV files have no 16,000 frame limit and they handle RAM in a different way than SWF files, so if you are creating large audio files, it is strongly recommended that use FLV output. Also, when creating audio for CD, you should use FLV video because it performs better.

Supported Formats

Flix encodes the following formats

Video: .avi, .dv, .mov/.qt, .mpeg, .mp4, .3gp, and for PC only: .asf/.wmv, .flv (Flix Pro for Windows only)
Audio: .mp3, .wav, and for PC only: wma. For Mac only: .aiff
Still Image: .jpg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .psd, .tif, .pic, .tga

FLV Output

Flix encoded FLV video and audio files have no frame or size limitation.

SWF Output

Flix encoded SWF video and audio output is limited only by the maximum allowed number of frames in the SWF format, which is 16000 frames. For example, at a SWF framerate of 8 fps, your movie can be over 33 minutes long. The Flash player will stop playing your video after 16,000 SWF frames, and Flix will warn you if your output video will exceed 16,000 frames. We also strongly suggest you do not create SWF video output that exceeds 50-60 MB of Flash player RAM usage, which is determined by adding the file size to the overhead of the Flash player itself. Flix will let you know how much RAM your video and audio will use when it is loaded into the Flash player, and it will warn you when you exceed 50 MB.
